Interdisciplinary Literacy

The Interdisciplinary Literacy course develops independent, motivated readers through consistent daily reading, student choice, and purposeful literacy practice that strengthens comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, critical thinking, and written response skills across a variety of genres, authors, and topics.

This course emphasizes reading growth through self-selected texts and sustained independent reading for at least 30 minutes daily. Students build reading stamina, deepen comprehension, and develop lifelong reading habits while exploring subgenres of fiction and nonfiction as well as styles of novel in verse, poetry, illustrated novel, and epistolary text aligned to their interests and reading levels. Instruction supports critical reading strategies, vocabulary acquisition, discussion skills, and reflective writing to help students think deeply about what they read and connect literature to their own experiences and the world around them.
