At Lakeside Middle School, students embark on an engaging three-year scientific journey that builds critical thinking skills through hands-on discovery and real-world applications. Sixth graders kick off their middle school experience in Earth Science, diving into the mysteries of our planet and universe as they construct models of the solar system, investigate dynamic weather patterns, and discover how geological forces shape the Earth. Transitioning to Life Science in seventh grade, students explore the building blocks of nature by examining cell structures under microscopes, unraveling the secrets of DNA and genetics, and analyzing how energy flows through complex ecosystems. Finally, eighth graders elevate their learning in High School Physical Science—a rigorous course that earns them high school credit—where they jump into interactive chemistry and physics investigations, testing Newton's laws of motion, analyzing chemical reactions, and experimenting with energy transformations.
